According to the Social Science Research Network most of us are ‘visuals’ – we make sense of things in images. It might explain why we use images and symbols so much in our everyday language: “We have distant relationship”, “Things feel up hill today”, “We need to hit targets” and “My luck is just around the corner”.

Have you used an emoji or two today to convey an emotion or thought? When you read the newspaper or magazine do you look at the pictures first – go, on….be honest!

According to the Visual Teaching Alliance, visual images transmit information faster than spoken or written words; we can get the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10 of a second, and images are processed 60,000 times faster in the brain than text.

A picture paints a thousand words.

In Rethinkly symbols and images are used to help describe a story, make sense of things and where needed communicate clearly with others.
